Breathe was written after I fell down ten feet headfirst while drunk breaking my jaw and cheekbone. I decided to quit drinking alcohol and smoking nicotine and cannabis there and then. I uncovered a very paranoid and depressed mind. I refused to take antidepressants and instead opted for a spiritual journey of self discovery, practicing how to become conscious which started with slowing down all motions and learning how to breathe again. The song describes the darkness of being inside my mind and the light and hope from breathing.
After the first lockdown I got together with my life long friend Matt Jacobs who recorded drums at the Penthouse studio in Leeds . I then recorded the guitar, vocals and harmonica at home. I asked Kathy Freeman who I'd discovered on YouTube to record some pedal steel side parts which she kindly recorded from her home in Berlin. The lead guitar was provided by George Quinn.
And to finish it off my mother Jane Hanson painted the picture for the artwork.
